Who is Guilty About Girls?…
They may be a brand new cutting edge duo, but Mark Henning and Jordy Birch are no strangers to the music biz. With the success of the 90’s Canadian Alternative Rock band Pure under their belt, these guys know a thing or two about what it takes to make a solid hit in the industry. Birch and Henning have reunited after more than 10 years with their latest musical incarnation, Guilty about Girls and their hit single Candy Candy.
With a unique musical style that consists of Indie Pop/ New wave/ and Electronica, Guilty About Girls have gained massive attention from fans, and music professionals across the country. The smash single 『Candy Candy』 is receiving daily airplay on major radio stations; including 100.5 The Peak in Vancouver, and The Edge 101.1 in Toronto. It has also recently been added to rotation at Much Music, and as of December 2010, their debut album 「The Very Best Of…」 topped the iTunes charts for #1 Canadian Electronic Album!
With such a controversial name for their band, Birch and Henning have not always received a positive response from the music community. The name is actually based on a pro-female viewpoint, as they struggle through their own feelings/ opinions on gender disparity in our modern age. Many thoughts arise when the name is spoken, but these progressive artists actually feel guilty about the issue, hence 「Guilty About Girls」 was born.
Featured in the 「Emerging Canadian Artists」 category for Billboard, there is no doubt that this dynamic duo has just begun to fuel the fire. With the success of Candy Candy, and the next single about to hit the airwaves, Guilty About Girls will be a name on thousands of music fan’s lips by 2012. Canadian and International tours are in the works, as these driven musicians tirelessly work to deliver music for the masses. Stay tuned for new songs, music videos, and all the latest 『Guilty About Girls』 news on their Facebook page 😉

Given that both Avril Lavigne and Jadyn Rylee are Canadian artists and because of the powerful message of perseverance to overcome an incredible struggle is a common theme between the two, we thought that this was a natural song for Jadyn to cover. We hope that this version of the song helps others to actually hear the words written by Avril and Stephan Moccio and make them strong enough to make it through their own struggle.

About the song
「Head Above Water」 is a song recorded by Canadian singer-songwriter Avril Lavigne from her upcoming sixth studio album of the same name (2019). It was written by Lavigne, Stephan Moccio, and Travis Clark; while being produced by Moccio. It was released as the lead single from the album on September 19, 2018, by BMG. It is Lavigne’s first single since 「Fly」, released on April 2015.
After more than a year from the release of the last single from her fifth studio album, on December 25, 2016, Lavigne announced via her Instagram account that she was working on new music for her upcoming sixth studio album.
On August 18, 2018, Lavigne posted on Instagram that new music is coming in September. At the end of August, the song 「Head Above Water」 was registered and Lavigne deleted almost all her pictures on Instagram.
On September 1, Lavigne shared a picture of her underwater via her social media. Several people reported that the image was related to the song 「Head Above Water」. On September 6, Lavigne posted a lengthy letter to her fans on her website detailing her struggle with Lyme disease in the past few years and how she overcame it. This also included a release date for 「Head Above Water」. She wrote on the letter about the song 「I had accepted death and could feel my body shutting down. I felt like I was drowning. Like I was going under water and I just needed to come up for air. Like I was in a river being pulled in a current. Unable to breathe. Praying to God for Him to help me just keep my head above the water. To help me see through the stormy weather.」
Lavigne shared a 30-second-snippet of the song on September 13, 2018.
The song was officially released on YouTube and worldwide streaming services on September 19, 2018.
